Handwoven Tapestries by Rita Romanova Gekht

Opened by established tapestry artist Rita Romanova Gekht in 2017, the Studio is a place where creativity, design and artistic excellence are taking place every day as Rita creates her tapestries in the heart of Lambertville, NJ. Her goal is to reintroduce the community to this slow art form and raise an appreciation for one of the most visually rich, healing and meditative creative mediums.

Rita was first introduced to tapestry weaving while attending NYU and pursuing her computer science degree, when she took an elective class taught by contemporary fiber artist Michelle Lester. This exposure to fiber art changed her life. From there, Rita continued her art education at Parsons School of Design, The School of Visual Arts, The New School and The Art Students League of New York. She became the studio manager of The Michelle Lester Studio and supervised most of the tapestry projects that the studio produced.

During the 80s and 90s, Rita wove a number of tapestries that were exhibited, collected and commissioned throughout the United States and in several galleries and exhibition spaces. She is now based in New Hope, PA and weaves her tapestries in beautiful downtown Lambertville, crafting her original pieces as well as commissioned work.

As an artist, it was my dream to open a space where I could practice this beautiful tradition of tapestry weaving and share it with others.
